His eyes like a full moon night
Flashing stars into
The darkness
Where he goes, he cannot say
Who he is today is not the same as yesterday
Who loves the boy with the sandy blue eyes?
Someone will love him, he is sure
The price he must pay for love will be too much someday…
Reaching into memory, there was someone
Who watched him play with fire flies
When darkness fell and
The misty smell of dew made him laugh
Until it was time to sleep
Someone knelt with him to pray
The scent of sun dried sheets
Rocked him to sleep
The child woke one day
And found there were
No more fire flies to catch
There was no one there
To help him pray
The sun still rose he knew
Fear of darkness
Awakened him
Only silence
Followed him
Want do you want to be when you grow up?
The eyes full of moonlight
Found no light
Still held memory
Of fire flies
And the smell of dew
Sun dried sheets
The answer held clarity
I want to be a child
Not one heard his answer
