Friends I Never Knew

Friends I Never Knew                   August 13, 2017

I say a prayer for Ireland and friends I never knew

Heroes of this small island patriot and true

Eight hundred years of friendship with heroes in the sky

People like them taken away, tear drops in my eye

Taken for being Irish, the wrong place in time

I think of them, the friends I never knew

The "patriot game" belongs to them

Killed for being Irish, the men of ten

Killed on the streets of home, collusions way

Young and old taken away

If I met my friends what would they say

Freedom for Ireland is the price we pay

The struggle goes on in the streets of my land

They would gently smile and say love Ireland

Cromwell came with an agenda to kill

Sent home to your country with your head hung in shame

I say a prayer for Ireland and friends I  never knew

Heroes of this small island patriot and true
