     “Summertime Dreams”

An angry red sky
chased a dying June day
cold summer showers
kept the children from play
a herd of dark clouds
blocked a tired old sun
why did you feel
you had but one choice
to run.
Summertime dreams
can be
the cruelest of all
when all you believed in
begins to tumble and fall.
The rain lost its footing
and slipped from the sky
dragging a rainbow
that colored the light,
all the stars jumped
so they could
stare at the moon
whose dark side was showing
on this dying day of June.
Summertime dreams
can be
the cruelest of all
when all you believe in
begins to tumble and fall.
The planets lined up
and saluted the sun
the stars feeling jealous
marched past one by one
an endless parade
that went through the night
the kids back at play
in July’s morning light
the flowers looked up
as the moon ran away
the roses all smiled
but had nothing to say
you left our love hanging
to wither and die
Summertime dreams
no more
You and I…
