Think of all the silent tears falling today,
Think of all the heartache that won't go away,
Think of all the memories of what should have been,
Stolen chances of moments that will never be seen.
Think of all the children as they head back to class,
Excited at seeing their friends again at last!
All of the new uniforms, coats and bags,
All of the poses for their 'back to school' photographs.
Think of all the parents standing at the gates,
With a moment of relief knowing they are not late,
But then think of the parents who sit alone today,
Who wish they were too sending their children on their way.
Instead all some have are memories, and an aching heart,
For for their children there will be no school start,
No school photo poses or no new school years,
Just empty hearts and falling tears.
Not every parent will be standing there,
Watching with pride in the crisp September air,
Some children won't go to school for they were taken too soon,
To join other angel children as stars near the moon.
