ALIYAH

In the Jewish synagogues
 An aliyah means ascent...
Not just to be called up to read
But a spiritual climbing event.

Although definitions surely vary
Between a Jew and  a Gentile...
The word still means going up
In each statue, shape, or style.

For the Jewish people of today
An aliyah does mean going up...
But going up to Jerusalem...
To drink of that ancestral cup.

And in every Christian life
There are mountain sides to climb.
The Lord places them here and there
Within His  chosen frame of time.

Like Abraham we all must climb
The mount of sacrifice...
Giving up the things we love
To embrace the love of Christ.

Then climbing Moses' mountain
We desire wrong deeds depart
As the most Holy Hand of God
Writes His laws within our heart.

High on the mountain of Elijah
We are forced to make a choice...
To serve the real and Living God
Or go after a strange voice.

Climbing the mountain of Ezekiel
Will come the lesson to discern
Between what's good and evil....
We have got so much to learn.

Jesus climbed so many mountains
To preach, to teach, to pray...
But the hardest one He ever climbed
Washed all our sins away.

So to really get a glimpse of
What He did for you and me
We must be making  our aliyah
Up to the Mount of Calvary.

~~AUTHOR'S NOTE~~
As almost always recently, my inspiration
for a poem comes from attending
church.
Something is said or preached that grabs
my spirit....then God, The Holy Spirit will
run this through my mind until I'm ready
to sit down and write....when I'm ready,
He will help to put the inspiration together
and supply the words.  I could never do this
without God....I may be a good writer...but
I'm not that good!

Exodus 24:12
12The LORD said to Moses, "Come UP to me on the mountain
and stay here, and I will give you the tablets of stone with the
law and commandments I have written for their instruction."

LUKE 6:12
One of those days Jesus went up to a mountainside
to pray, and spent the night praying to God.

John 19:17

They took Jesus, therefore, and He went up,
bearing His own cross,to the place called the Place
of a Skull, which is called in Hebrew, Golgotha.
