 Welcome to Blackened Poetry

Melanin Woman

See the thing about a black woman is
even though she is dealt a handful and is consistently
being trashed for one reason or the other,
she will still stand strong in the midst of it all.
In silence maybe but only because she is lost for words for the society she lives in.
She knows what is to come and what has passed.
She fears little and the things she does fear
are spiritual.
When she steps outside her threshold she knows just about everything she has
to look forward to until she crosses her threshold again and prepares for another day.
She understands why she is being trashed by society
and those reasons are exactly why she
is unbothered. You can knock her down, slaughter her name,
chastise her character and through
it all she will stand mighty.
