“The Tilt”
She gave him
just a slight
tilt
of the head
a quarter
of her profile
was all she
showed him
but that
was all she
needed
she understood
less is more
no need to give
him
the full turn
hook his attention
and let his mind
try and fill in
the blanks,
she could sense
the curiosity
in his eyes
as they probed
the back of
her body
looking for more
lines
to give him
a better idea
as to how
she was put
together
so she teased
him
a little
by revealing
just part of
her face to
him
still it was
enough
to cause him
to lose his
way.
He could only
see
her from the
back
his eyes followed
her exposed
shoulders
till they met
the gentle slope
of her neck
he could feel
the softness
of her bare
skin
as his eyes
traveled back and
forth
along that same
route
of her body
in till his
silent prayer
was answered
as her head
gave a little
tilt
as she ran
her fingers through
her hair
allowing him
to see part
of her face
he had to work
to stop himself
from staring,
glancing down
looking left
in between
treasured moments
of trying to
put together
a look
he had yet
to fully see.
She could feel
him
trying to will
her
in to turning
his way
and had to fight
her own
natural urge
to do so
not to cave in
and give her
whole look
away,
she liked the
tension
the suspense
the anticipation
they both had
of not knowing,
that electric feeling
running between them
that just can’t quite
connect
on this uneven
visual ground
him chasing
her look
while she tactfully
turns it away.
He takes that
slim available view
she giving him
and tries to
build on it,
the angle of
her cheek bone
the curve of
her chin
what he wouldn’t
give
to see
on the other
side
of the crest
of her shoulders,
he had been
drawing her
since she had
sat down
in front of
him
a portrait of
her
containing only
her
back
shoulders
neck
and a quarter
tilt
of her face.
He knew
she could feel
his gaze
measuring her
dimensions
as he transformed
her presents
on to his pad
he wasn’t much
for words
tripping over
even the most
routine
of comments,
but he could
draw
or so
he had been
told.
She was
just about ready
to turn and
smile
a well-practiced
move
that had claimed
more than a
couple of
hearts
besides
that brief look
she got
when she walked
past him
only a glimpse
of his face
but a cute
enough one
to get this
little game of
hers started,
she took her
hand
and fluffed up
her hair
ran her tongue
over her lips
to give them
that glistening
look
then she turned
fully around
in one quick
twist
causing her hair
to fly up
framing her face
as she flashed
him
her award winning
smile
her eyes
opening wide
to meet his
only to see
he was gone
and in his
place
lay a drawing
of the back
of a woman
her head
slightly tilted
with the light
just catching
a quarter of
her face…
