THE REFLECTION OF A TORTURED SOUL

sparkle

It's just another layer of suffered skin,
For every hurt and every pain that I have been in.
Each hurt is like a layer of suffered skin,
Protecting my heart from the raw pain that I have seen.

It's just another layer of suffered skin,
Protecting the emotions buried deep beneath my skin.
Covering up the world of pain I am in,
From this toxic world consumed by sin.

It's just another layer of suffered skin,
For every nasty word spoken in my life,
For every abuse that caused me misery and strife!
For every bruise you gave to me,
And for saying I couldn't be all the things that I wanted to be.

It's just another layer of suffered skin,
For the broken family I am existing in.
It's just another layer of suffered skin,
For the violent relationship that I am in.

It's just another layer of suffered skin,
Wanting to end the life I am in.
Escaping bullies, sexual predators; the fake relationships I am in.
Covering the low self-esteem, lack of confidence, and self-worth.
Trapped on this God forsaken earth!

It's just another layer of suffered skin,
For the pain I have lived and felt.
As you knocked back your drink, and got yourself high,
and then you removed your belt!

It's just another layer of suffered skin burying my emotions deep inside,
For each layer of suffered skin, is a layer of hurt, pain, & the tears I have cried.
For each hurt I grow a layer of suffered skin, which prevents people from pouring goodness in.
Each layer of suffered skin I have, also makes it hard for me to pour my goodness out.

Layers of hurt & layers of pain!
Why me?
Hurt trapped beneath these layers of suffered skin.
Wanting you to reach me and to lessen the pain, but allowing you to venture beneath these layers, feels so insane.

Could you handle the truth?
Could I trust you with my heart?
Mind matter - cognitive recall,
Pause, rewind and we are back at the start.

Existing beneath this suffered skin,
makes it more difficult for you to reach my heart!

The unfortunate twist to this poem you will see, is that I can't reach you, and you can't reach me!
