Rebound Girl

Original Contemporary Poetry by author, Jean Parr

"Rebound Girl"

Always second best, a loser
Even as a little girl,
She took a backseat to her abuser
Forever altering her view of the world

Looking in the rearview mirror, she was a roommate, not a soulmate
Accepting a marriage of convenience, rather than love
This was her fate
Her husband was impatient of and neglectful of

Finally, she escapes and falls head over heels in love...lightening bolt love
She believes it is mutual, he wouldn't wrong her
Only to find that it was forced, she was the rebound girl, unworthy of
If only she were stronger

She's made her choice, it's too late for her
Living her life on pause has finally broken her
