Thanksgiving was always a special day for my family
When my mother and father was alive we (my sisters and families)
would travel many miles to share this special day together
Each one of us had a special dish we prepared
My mother always made her famous Chocolate pudding
She made a huge dish of it and none was ever left in the dish
We gathered and had our prayers of thanks
always thanking God for our families'
health wealth and love
The turkey was brought in from the kitchen
It was golden brown ready for slicing
I can still smell the aroma of the big bird
Her dressing was a meal by itself
She made it the same way her mother had made it
I now make it the same way my mother made it
After eating the ladies cleaned up the kitchen
The men took the children outsite to play football
each child was given the ball to run for a touchdown
I miss those days of yesteryear's Thankgiving
I miss the sound of the children's high voices with shouts and laughter
I miss the ones who are gone from around the dinner table
