Ladder and Drowning

Yu Nu
Translated from Chinese by Ou Shilin

He runs fast, carrying a ladder;.
He is not comfortable about being sixteen.
Who gave him a shot?
This is beating around the bush; this is the way
to avoid sensitive issues.
Here he is, at the wharf, where a dock worker
just got drowned. He has no regard
for the truth. A woman put him in.
"You go to the pier, to be that passenger. "
Those words, if not implicated by the human body,
would be of a sheet of squared paper.

About the author:

Yu Nu's poetry is collected in nine anthologies. he has also published a novel The Absent-minded Park. Yu is the recipient of the 3rd Huo Zhe Poetry Award. His other honors include the 2nd Tomorrow-Ergun Poetry Award, the 5th Hong Yan Lierature Prize for Chinese Poetry, the 2015 October Poetry Award, etc.
