I don't know you by name
or for which war you fought,
I want to say thank you
for the freedoms you've brought.
Your brothers and sisters
gave their lives for you and me,
they will never be forgotten
because they set us free.
They didn't die in vane
their memories will forever go on,
being told through your stories
as you try to keep yourselves calm.
Tears may stroke your cheeks
as you give a peaceful salute,
remembering your fallen comrades
even though their voices lie mute.
On this very day, dear Veterans
I thank you from the bottom of my heart,
you and your comrades, set me free
though you go on living apart.
