Their Feelings They Did Not Hide

Their Feelings They Did Not Hide December 21, 2017

I slipped into a sleep one night with Irish heroes by my side

Martyrs all around me, their feelings they did not hide

Too many to mention, why did our heroes die

They proudly stood together with freedom in their eye

Young and old with a story to be told

Freedom for their country, green, white, and gold

They died loving Ireland in many different ways

No chance to say goodbye,We will have our day

Children of the Gael killed, just another Irish day

Another one killed, death's the price that we pay

Belfast, Derry, Cork, and many an Irish town

Death squads kill our people, heroes don't lie down

Irish children shot on Irish streets,Irish leaders shot at will

The solution for England was arrogance, just kill

The heroes around me, the men of ten that died

Kill Irish leaders was the way with the forces of the crown

Democracy no, invasion yes, Cromwell failed to put us down

Together with Roger Casement, I think my heroes cried

Tom Williams stood with Kevin Barry, they died a similar way

Killed for loving Ireland because they would not say

My trip with the angels and Irish heroes that died

I woke from my dream and knew that I'd cried

For my heroes in heaven and the martyrs that died

I slipped into a sleep one night with Irish heroes by my side

Martyrs all around me, their feelings they did not
