     “The Unlit Stage”

He thought at
times
his life was
meant to be
nothing more
than
a back round
piece
in the life’s
of others,
his life was
never going to
have any meaning
he would always
be known as
one of the
others
in the cast
of the people
he was around,
he sat in a
shadow
waiting for his
small bit
to come into
play
and every now
and then
he gets to
step into the
not so bright
cast off light
from someone
who mattered
a face with
a name
a life with a
purpose,
he never got
to say a
word
his appearances
at best included
a nod
when his face
was even visible
his body just
took up space
on a bus
in a crowd
where ever
a blend of
human
color
was needed,
he looked in
from the
darkened
perimeter
watching the
life’s
of the real
players
people who
spoke
loved
and were woven
through the threads
of each other’s
worlds
lucky ones
living in the
main spot light
of life
never having to
stand in the
cold
of the unlit
stage
of the world,
he had tried
to claw his
way
over
the unseen wall
that separated
him
from that inner
circle
kept out by
an invisible line
that he fought
to step over
wanting to be
noticed,
wanting to
matter,
to have a
speaking part,
to be among
the one’s
looking out
instead of always
peering in,
but that wasn’t
happening
at least not
today
he took his
cue
stood on his
mark
four people back
from a main
character
on a busy
sidewalk
an unconnected
piece
to this
on going
play of life,
you’ll find him
listed
in the world’s
cast credits
as man #4,
living in a
shadow
of someone
else’s
dream…
