Poetic Verses

In Memory of Duane Allman

The first time that I heard you
I assuredly was impressed
And became an instant follower
Almost as if obsessed.

But the thing that overwhelmed me
Was the way you played guitar
A master of the bottleneck
An up-and-coming star.

It was you and brother, Gregory
Who gave the group its name
And with the crew behind you
Soon gained worldwide acclaim.

There was Butch, Jaimoe, and Berry
Along with Dickey Betts
Who formed the backbone of a band
That no die-hard forgets.

You had the drive and will to birth
The Allman Brothers Band
And I have sorely missed you, Duane
I'll always be a fan.
