Howbeit of what things that were gained,
These things have I counted as a loss;
For through Jesus Christ I proclaimed,
That was acquired through the cross.
So, I count all things to the loss,
For excellence of the knowledge;
As my Lord had hung on the cross,
Whom my suffering gives courage.
I suffered the loss of all things,
Since I do count them but refuse;
That I may gain for what Christ brings,
To be mocked as king of the Jews.
I have not of a righteous mind,
As to what you would find in Him;
But I have been humble and kind,
And my life has not been so grim.
Even that which is of the Law,
But that which is through faith in Christ;
The righteousness cleans any flaw,
Caused by temptation that enticed.
With a faith that I may know Him,
And the might of resurrection;
To beef up my spiritual vim,
In the heavenly direction.
Fellowship of His suffering,
Being conformed unto His death;
Able to be a buffering,
When anxiety takes my breath.
If by any means I attain,
The resurrection from the dead;
The temptations I must refrain,
Move forward to what lies ahead.
So, I press forward toward the goal,
That I am able to win the prize;
And that Jesus Christ takes my soul,
As a blessing within His eyes.
