 ramblings and things

Hannah Hauxwell, 1926 - 2018

She lived a life of penury
In the harshness of her Dale
Living  in obscurity
Until the camera told her tale.
She spoke with quiet dignity
As she told of her life
A hard working spinster
Never to be a wife,

Always contented
With her allotted space
Always a quiet serenity
Shining from her face.
Discovered by the world
Feted and admired
She carried on her life
Until she finally retired.

Unspoilt by the adulation
Attached to her name
Unchanged by the burden
Of worldwide fame.
The farm sold she moved into
A more luxurious lifestyle
But still for the world
That gentle accepting smile.

A woman of the Dales doing
What she saw as her duty
Surrounded all the time by
It's harshness and it's beauty.
An inspiration to the world,
We mourn her today.
A woman who very quietly
Did things in her own way.
