The day that love died

Smiles became fewer, love became scarce

I no longer found myself touching your hair

The glow had subsided, I felt my heart cry

The day that I lost you, the day that love died

I wonder the chambers of 'What might have been'

I can still hear the echoes of hundreds of things

Of how we would love 'til world's without end

Never dreaming, believing, it was all just pretend

It was real for a while, no doubt about that

It was real when I loved you all night in the back

Of Buick I bought and then sold for scrap, it

Was real, oh so real, I can't contradict fact

But now all remains is a fading pastiche

A parody of kisses, of love out of reach

A promise forsaken, touch whispers denied

The day that I lost you, the day that love died
