Tamara Beryl Latham - The Poet

Without Sin
(The subject of the poem is not Jesus,
but the common man who views himself greater than God -
sometimes a boss, sometimes a friend and sometimes a relative).

Behold the man!

His nakedness revealed.

In treachery he doth judge
those more meager
and less fortunate than he.

What gives him the right
to designate himself
King over Kings?

Doth he even realize
without the cloak he's nothing?

And it is fact
the wrap doth oft conceal.

Behold his heart!
Exposed for all to see.

More black and gruesome
than the midnight sky.

As he casts stones,
his vengeance seeks
an eye for an eye.

His foot upon my neck,
my face lay buried
in the ground.

A desperate situation
as I writhe in endless pain,

my captor stands before me
without sin.
