I got ash in my eye
Her love was too heavy, too fast, too intense,
Too much in each spoonful, too much to digest,
A flood of affection, a storm of desire,
A heatwave of passion, her bush was on fire.
Well, I've been to heaven and back in a week,
High waves in the blankets, squalls in the sheets,
I hoped it would last, but I thought perhaps not,
Her fire was too high, her furnace too hot.
It burnt out so quickly from glowing to ash,
Did I cry, was I hurt? Surely no need to ask,
You know men are strong and tougher than that,
I got ash in my eye, on the wind, looking back.
