“Her Shadow”
He kept grasping
at her shadow
trying to pump
life
into a one
dimensional
memory,
he had nothing
from her
to hold on
too
not even a
simple
picture
of her
showing him
that thought
provoking
smile
of hers,
even her shadow
was left behind
for someone else
he just came
across it
by accident
saw its profile
and knew in
an instant
that it was
her,
so in the
absents
of her photo
he takes her
misplaced
shadow
and colors in
the emptiness
contained within,
he hadn’t seen
her
in almost two
months
yet he easily
fills in her
open space
with flowing
lines
of form
and vibrant
colors
as if she had
just walked
past him
showing off that
patented look
of hers
that permanently
held
first position
in all his
dreams,
he felt dirty
for manufacturing
a moment of
her
and calling it
his own
kidnapping
her personal
shadow
for selfish
reasons
an unreported
crime
she’ll never know
he committed
guilty of the
unspeakable
act
against her
unknowing
shadow
of impersonating
someone
she cared about
letting it believe
it was looking
at someone
who mattered
to her
not just another
wishful guy
posing before it
trying to steal
a little of her
attention
get her to
shine
some of her
brightness
on him
to bring his
heart
in out of the
dark
and into her
world
of colored lights,
but being her
shadow
it didn’t take
long
before it was
able to see
through
the charade
see that
he didn’t
belong
in her life
he had crossed
over a line
he should have
known
to respect,
his cover blown
he just watched
this shadow
of beauty
slip away
from him
taking it’s
perfect form
and vibrate colors
with it
leaving him
in a wake of
empty light
and undefined
space
waiting for another
misplaced shadow
to fall from
her side…
