     “Tormented Love”

 She was
missing
him
real
real bad
today
waking up
alone
she puts on
one of his
unwashed hoodies
he mistakenly
left behind,
she knows her
life
is better off
without him
in it
a heart in
constant torment
whenever he
was near
her,
but today
today she needed
him
she needed to
be
held tightly
and told she
mattered
even if they
were
just temporary
lies,
her hand lets
her cell phone
slip through her
slender fingers
momentarily lost
in the waves
of her pink
comforter
debating whether
or not
to rescue it
or just pull
the covers
back over her
head
and hope his
hold on her
will fade
if she sleeps
through most
of the day,
she felt so
strong
that last time
they were together
calling him out
cutting him loose
thinking that
that night
was the beginning
of forever
without him,
she buries her
face
in his hoodie
breathing in
memories
of nights gone
past
she can’t take
another setback
not like the
last time
when
she gave in
and called him
opened the door
to six more
months
of tormented
love
she swore
to herself
it would never
happen again,
but it is just
so easy
to lie
back on her
bed
and think about
that feeling of
fulfillment
he always
brought to
her
a wholeness
that’s been
missing
a feeling
she’s finding
hard to get
past today,
she just
kept
skipping over
all those
footnotes
attached to each
of her
fulfilling nights
with him
the endless
fights
and poisoned
words
that dominated
most of the
time
contained in
their special
moments,
she knows
she shouldn’t
do it
that she can’t
call him
he’s just not
worth it
as she’s still
lying on her
bed
staring at the
fan
on her ceiling
as it slowly
goes
around
and around
while the known
truth
and unbearable
loneliness
tug on opposite
sides
of her heart,
she should
have
never put on
his hoodie
she thinks
as she
reaches in
to the folds
of her pink
comforter
and pulls
out
her phone…
