Imperfect

there was a small sepia-colored mark
sitting just to the right
of my picturesque nose
my nose so pert and well-formed
in spite of it being broken twice

the mark was round
dark
calling attention to itself
I had it removed

but it had other ideas
it grew back in
ever so gradually and stealth-fully
that I didn't bother to notice

it felt it had a place on my face
without reservation
so it regenerated itself
reclaiming its spot
doing what it had already done
naturally
which was to call attention to me
and to speak its message:

hello
here I am and here she is
I am here to do all I can
to let her know I belong
and she does too
with all her misconceptions
and to let her know its the little imperfections
in this world
her world
that make her and all of us
beautiful
