     “Insignificant”

He tried not
to show it
his face was
stuck on pause
with an awkward
smile
across it
when she walked
by
lowering his
eyes
disappointed
at knowing
no tilt of
her head
was coming his
way,
he kept looking
at the ground
when her path
dictated
she take another
pass
in front of
him
ashamed at
the fact
he had to
be in her
presence
at all,
he couldn’t say
a word
to her
frozen in fear
afraid
he’ll only
make things
worst
with rambling
sentences
full of unpolished
letters
that she’ll
never be able
to connect
together,
her face is
full of indifference
when she turns
and points it
in his direction
looking through
him
as if he
wasn’t even
there,
he didn’t think
his heart could
feel anymore
sorrow
believing
it had already
soaked up
as much as
it could
possibly hold
till she gave
him
that look of
him being
totally
insignificant
to her
in any possible
way
he could ever
imagine,
her eyes
helped him
to find
a new threshold
of pain
for him to
endure,
he slightly
raised his head
after she went
by him
his eyes
undeserving
of watching
her
as she walked
away
pretending
to be busy
before
following
behind her
down the now
empty hallway
slowing his long
strides
so that his
eyes
didn’t even
catch up to
her,
as he begs
the world
with all his
strength
to open up
and swallow
him whole…
