WHEN WE GREW UP

When we grew up
We changed our names
We no more bore
Those idle names
Of Egypt, sadly
Or their gods
That made us
Pharaoh's daughter's sons.

We spurned their laws
We threw stones on
And judged their gods
And killed Egyptian fool
That dared to touch
An Israel son

Those sad throes made us
Lose our homes
And run and live in Jethro's home
In sandly deserts
Where we roamed
Forever free from
Egypt domes.
