“Talking Out Loud”
He caught himself
again,
talking to himself
in a loud
agitated voice
he can normally
keep his voice
at a low
volume
but if he’s
stressed out
or upset
he tends to
lose control
of his verbal
levels
not even realizing
most times
when it’s happening
which is bad
enough
but when he
gets caught
by someone
and he’s in
a full blown
argument
and continues
on with it
still not realizing
he is holding
up
both the pro
and the con
sides
of his debate
he starts getting
stares of confusion
from people
not knowing if
this is an
act
or just a kid
with lots of
personal problems,
he got this
smart idea
of wearing a
blue tooth
ear piece
letting him look
normal
but coming across
as rude
during his rants
to anyone who
brushes up
against his world,
he couldn’t tell
you
why
it had all
started
he can remember
when he use to
only let a
few casual
words
spill out of
his mouth
nothing that most
people
don’t have happen
to them
from time to
time
but those words
soon grew into
sentences
when he started
playing devil’s
advocate
as if a third
party
was asking him
the question
still conscious
of the fact
it was only
him
doing the talking,
but as he
spent
more time alone
and the gaps
between friends
became wider
those innocent
questions
of self doubt
turned into
comments
and as his
isolation grew
and he was
still
unable to find
anyone to add
their words to
his many
sentence filled
balloons
and turn them
into conversations
without
thinking about it
he started
splitting up
his thoughts
and then
he started taking
sides
a practice
he is working
on
over coming,
he was protective
over
who he let
in to his life
missing the balance
of having someone
on the other
end
of a conversation
but not trusting
enough
to just let
anybody
hold it up,
so if you
see him
talking a bit
too loud
trying to make
a point
in the middle
of some verbal
sparring match
down isle 9
the cereal section
of your local
supermarket
try not to
stare
give him a
break
and maybe
a nod of
encouragement
if you happen
to over hear
a valid point
in his rant
or a comforting
smile
if he starts
to stutter
suddenly frozen
in a panic
embarrassed at
the realization
of what he’s
doing,
he’s not deranged
just out of
practice
when it comes
to people
and talking…
