     “An Unexpected Find”

He hadn’t seen
her
in over three
months
she was still
his most
sought out
thought
when ever
he left his
mind
in idle,
but he was
now able to
get through
his day
mostly pain
free
break away
from his constant
pursuit
of her attention
and on with
his daily life,
but that all
changed today
when he saw
a Xerox copy
of a ten year
old picture
with her sitting
in the middle
of a team of
people
he worked with
he was instantly
caught again
in her web
of attraction,
he had found
the picture
on an out
of the way
rear wall
a small
poor quality
image
that he had
quickly
glanced over
till her face
brought his
eyes
to a skidding
halt
her image then
dragged him
back to that
wall
nine more times
throughout the
day,
her whole presence
on that piece
of paper
was less than
one square inch
even still
it felt like
she towered
over him
all his insecurities
normally hidden
when he’s not
around her
start to show
themselves
in great detail
intimidated
by the black
ink
from a printer
smeared against
the white backing
of some cheap
copier paper,
not understanding
why he’s seeing
color in her
eyes
as he  greedily
stares
at her form
not wanting to
share this
moment
of being able
to openly look
at her
with anyone,
the imprisoned
picture
stranded there
having nowhere
to run to
it has to endure
his visual scan
of her
making a mental
copy
of his own
imprinting
all those little
dots of ink
on to a blank
white page
in his memory
feeling a bit
guilty
about wanting to
remember her pose
that smile
and the color
of her eyes
that only he’s
seeing
in this old
back and white
photo copy
that was meant
for someone
else
to have,
but his guilt
is out weighed
by his desire
just to see
some semblance
of her
embarrassed by
the affects
this small piece
of paper
has caused in
him
but unable to
pull his eyes
away from it,
he runs his
fingers across
her image
half expecting
to feel
the green
he sees in her
eyes
disappointed
at his realization
she still has
such an
overpowering
pull
on his world
a fact
he almost
forgot,
he steps back
from the wall
cleans up
all his feelings
he let spill
out
all over the
floor
and puts the
count
to the number
of days
for his romantic
sobriety
of her
back at zero
again,
and then goes
back to living
just one day
at a time…
