Hello Neighbor

I have no intentions of
of ever talking with you
it amazes me
how you've got everything
everyone
all figured out
every move and thought
down to the last detail

you must be some kind of
Svengali
or
Expert
on humanity

I've read your posts
on the neighborhood site
how they
smack with your ill humor
and mean irony
how you view people
who aren't like you
as human cockroaches

you may live near by
but I wouldn't chat with you
over the clothesline

it used to be
neighbors were kind
the sort from you you'd borrow a cup of sugar
or talk about the weather
or have them look in on your child

maybe
trade a few jokes or
jaw  on and on about your woes
over the fence posts

but I wouldn't waste the time
I'm inclined to think
you couldn't carry on a civil word
in your head
let alone voice one

each and every word that they posts
is laden with dripping vitriol

going on and on about how
the homeless
only belong in jail
like somehow, they're animals
and not even human animals
how they aren't like them
but more akin to a sub-human species
a Yahoo-yokel with a tail and horns...
and how their kind
ought to be put out
of commission
and how it ought to be their decision
to decide and all...

so m'aam
I'd like to know
what ever happened to letting those living
live
to be forgiving is
in turn to be forgiven
isn't there's a lot more grace
in that

I don't want to tell you
what I think
you won't listen
and its wasted energy
its better to be me
and from time to time
extend the hand of mercy
and do a random act of kindness.

their smiles don't match their eyes
so you can't trust them
to see you for who you are
why do they feel so under siege
do they feel they're so much better
than you and me?

I don't get them...
don't they have enough
enough to keep them
somewhat happy?

they are all about the business
which is their lives
and to heck with those
who aren't anything like them
otherness being a sin
you got to fit in
to be their neighbor.
