it is the rain within
that drowns me
it is the rain without
that stings my soul
it is the rain
I see within you that
breaks my heart
it is the rain filling up
their eyes
that makes it hard for me
to look away
it is the rain
in the winter
how it rains
continuously it seems
nearly every day
it is as if
the rain lives here
like it owns this place
how it feels like the rain has vowed
to never go away
it is the rain
driving me down
a steady drain into an UN-ending flow
it is not gentle
some days I feel it knows how
it is not kind
it is a pummeling of circumstance
how it tenderizes us into the ground
our very minds
how it bullies
to serve then to remind
how I must, we must all move on
straggle onto some
higher
ground
I see how the little worms
drown
in the rain.
