Up a Tree
Jonah had prayed to the Lord,
From the stomach of the fish;
Asking not to be ignored,
In having His dying wish.
He called out unto the Lord,
From being in such distress;
How much He is still adored,
And just wanted to confess.
God threw him in deep water,
In the middle of the sea;
For it felt like a slaughter,
The meal that was made of he.
Engulfed by the ocean wave,
He was banished from His sight;
Now the fish given a slave,
Has become his final plight.
Water engulfed to his neck,
Seaweed wrapped around his head;
He became a nervous wreck,
As a fish meal being fed.
The foot of the hills he went,
The netherworld he was blocked;
But to Neneveh God sent,
By a huge fish he was stalked.
His life was ebbing away,
The future was looking grim;
Because Jonah went astray,
A fainting soul looking dim.
Those who worshipped graven gods,
Lying self-loves to embrace;
Stone and metal that were frauds,
Forsaken for their own grace.
But glad to be sacrificed,
As declaration of praise;
No longer to be enticed,
And death no longer delays.
God gave the fish a command,
No to hold Jonah inside;
To vomit him on dry land,
Allowed Jonah to abide.
