“Lack of Conversation”

He never could
capture her attention,
on his best of
days
he was only able
to get her to
take a slight
pause
as she went
through
one door in his
life
and out another,
he tried to
imagine
what it would
be like
to have her
wanting to
hear what he
had to say
her eyes
looking into his
as she waited
for his next word
to drop
truly curious about
his thoughts
and how he was
going to convey
them to her,
he could easily
picture her face
as his sentences
would twist through
the story
he was
telling her
that little smile
she gives out
instead of a laugh
or that smirk of
contempt
when something
that was said
didn’t please
her,
he knew every
patented look
her face could
produce
having watched
her
cast those looks
around the building
for a year now
but even with
all his inside
information
on her personal
traits
he was unable to
get her to even
slow down
her day
long enough
for him to
step out in front
of her
and speak a full
sentence
never mind
start up a
conversation
with her,
he was sure
she had her
own days
when a pair of
sparkling green
eyes
would break up
the rhythm of
her normally
smooth flowing
sentences
causing her words
to stumble over
her heart,
he knows that
he’ll never be
the one responsible
for that kind of
cause and effect
in her life,
but still
he tried to
imagine
what it would
be like
if he was…
