Seven silhouettes of soldiers,
Victims of the Great War,
Brought back to memory,
To be remembered once more.
Displayed in the church where
Once they may have prayed
Then over to the trenches
Where sadly they are laid.
Like so many they died
In the cause of a bad war
Which laid the foundations for
The deaths of thousands more.
A gesture from the children
Many generations further on
Paying their tribute to
Dead soldiers long gone.
May the children know peace
in a world secure and free:
Lives sacrificed not in vain
If these things can come to be.

In the village of their past:
Perhaps these silhouettes mean
In thoughts they are home at last.
