Just a Lonely Fighting Man

So far, trying to touch the sky,
lonely am I a fighting man,
trying to keep my America
safe from harm..

So long now have I been
fighting, my soul needs
a rest to pray, why must
a lonely boy like me have
to shed a lonely tear!

The ones I love, please
don't forget me, I think
of you every day, please
say a prayer for me that
I'll return home safely
back to you..

Each heart beat keeps
time to the machine gun
I must shoot, it is not
in my heart to kill another
mothers son..

Shadows of fear follow
me as I walk fields of
uncertainty, there is
enemy fire in the distance,
bullets that kill you
dead.

Mother, dear mother, say
a prayer for me, ask the
Lord to keep me safe,
till I come home to you..

Blood runs cold in my veins,
to watch men falling at my
feet, it hurts so very much,
to know there is a love
waiting for them somewhere..

This war has been so very
long, I need a hug, a hand
of comfort would be a wish
come true..

I need to go home soon,
I need the love of my family, I
need to see a small child smile,
and old man touch my hand, I
just need to know, that my home
land is free from harm..

A little poem from a fighting
man, a man so young and all
alone, I am fighting this very
day to keep America safe
from harm..
