Poetic Verses
God's Mercies
Some people would suggest that luck
Decides the fate of man
While others say God intervenes
And has since time began.
As I look back on my own life
And how I've lived this long
I believe God's mercies over time
Have kept me well and strong.
For at age sixteen, I could have died
Falling victim to disease
But God saw fit to spare my life
Though with no guarantees.
Then I was almost died in a car wreck
While sowing a few wild seed
Not thinking of the deadly mix
Of ignorance and speed.
I later got sent off to war
At the mere age of nineteen
But came back home without a scratch
Feeling old but tanned and lean.
In time, I married that special girl
I'm convinced God sent my way
And had He not, I wonder where
I would have been today.
Therefore, I think it more than luck
That spared me, life and limb
So, I have to think God intervened
And I owe it all to Him.
