A HEADLESS WOMAN

‘Twas fun speaking of baskets;
I saw a headless woman
Hold in left hand a basket
Swimming betweeen the north pole
And God's own holy highway.

She was the duty harlot
That sat upon the sea shores
Conjuring spells on chaste men
And never ranked the Sun's mate.

I harvested and killed her;
The spirit of the blind men,
Murder, divorce, abortion
Abominations and all dirts.

I sacked her rubbery lie-bed
The spirit of ‘liberty'
Falsely so-called and branded
To suit a fallen purpose.

Would you listen, my young man,
And also, O ye poor men
Surrounded by the tempest
Living in hole with serpents?
