Shores of Sorrows

I remember the summer of 1973 when seashells and gulf salty waters sparkled in the morning sun.
Light of pale blue skies and white cotton clouds was holding the Gulls in flight.
The sun looked down on the face of the waters and touched her cheek with peaceful grace;

Still my restless heartbeat drums to a striking role, the troops return from war that spring, death has taken a toll.
Yet, earth and sky and waters touch remain the same, will mankind's turmoil ever tame?
Walking the shores in days of youth knowing the price of the soldier's truth, if only we could  place war aside
and drown conflict in the tide, perhaps the broken hearts of Widows and Mother's tears will lose their pain
for countless years.
