 Carol's Journey

(Renamed and revised on dates as noted below)

Envelope from SSA came August 2nd in the mail
Displayed Notice of Disapproved Claim as denial
Condition not severe enough for me not to work
Page one gave the reasons and process they took

They saw I had some work related activity limitations
But not to prevent me from past data entry positions
My medical, other information, and work experience
Age, education, and training all viewed in relevance

Rest of three pages detail SSA rules and other benefits
Steps on how to appeal decision if you disagree with it
Right to file new application or getting help with appeal
Quite complex and frustrating to read the entire ordeal

It was disappointing news but I will not give in to defeat
Satan will try to convince me the battle cannot be beat
Statistics indicate 65% of initial applications are denied
Another 60% cases won after court hearing rendered

Last Friday, I called disability lawyer for representation
Phone screen interview lasted 40 minutes in duration
The lady asked lots of questions about my disability
All the info I provided will be reviewed by the attorney

The lady also offered some strong recommendations
Ask my doctor about a neurology mental evaluation
Set up pain treatment or SSA views pain as tolerable
They must see results of pain levels as manageable

Scheduled appointment for 8/17 with neurologist
Also set up 8/28 exam for orthopedic specialist
When I asked my doctor about pain treatment plan
She advised to wait for 8/28 to discuss with him then

I am still waiting to hear whether they will take my case
Winning appeals is how they are paid as their fee basis
They have the right to refuse cases after their review
Any number of reasons can affect their point of view

New cardiologist set up for 8/23 appointment
After ECHO showed possible aorta enlargement
Testing resulted from genetics doctor consultation
With potential for Marfan's Syndrome connection

Today, on 8/14, I met with the above same attorney
List of doctors, medications, denial notice took with me
Said my case lacks supporting medical documentation
He recommended I check into vocational rehabilitation
Filed my appeal but refused for now his representation

Lord, You have a reason for all of this by Your timing
Guide each doctor in their exam and results finding
Help me with tough issues I will face along the way
You are in control and You will see me through each day

By Carol Salter on August 8, 2018

NOTE: 8/14 added stanza above regarding attorney meeting
Attorney said he will review my doctor's summary statement and
reconsider should sufficient medical evidence occur from upcoming
appointments this month or in the future.
