 'Inspiration In Thought'

'Sacred Secrets'

I have often wondered about life's scared secrets,
The reason for living, the reason for leaving.
And life can be long, it can sometimes be short,
Yet we accept whatever happens as part of life's course.

The days speed along, the years quickly follow,
Till we find ourselves nearing a path that is shallow,
Then what do we do? How do we gravitate
Toward a safe place that is easy to navigate?

I now find myself facing another dark storm,
One that changes all things from the norm,
It pulls at my heart, it stifles my breath,
And I'm cast afloat while the waves suck my breath.

You were my good friend, no better did they come,
As we played, and we danced much longer than some,
You would laugh, sometimes cry, it was how you were made,
But you always were there to forever lend aid.

It is so unfair that life comes to an end,
Yet time is not owned, it is merely just lent,
But the time that we had, must not be let parish,
Instead stored in my heart, forever to cherish.

~ This poem, the first in a very long while, is one that is truly hard to create.
How do you express something that has no words, no adjectives, no description?
The loss of a longtime friend can be fully as disabling as that of a close family member.
In many ways harder. It was always said that you cannot pick family, however you can pick a friend.
And I chose one of the best, or he chose me, whichever, we formed a wonderful friendship that lasted for thirty eight years.
I will miss him, yet he is not that far away. I hope his wife and family can take comfort in knowing this.
Thank you, Sammy, for all the wonderful times. I will never forget them, or you, and I will cherish your memory for the rest of my life.~
