Fishing for Dinner

I saw a young child and his dog sitting side by side at the lake shore
He had his fishing pole and a big straw hat on his head,
and sunglasses to protect his eyes, he loves days with bright sunshine sky
He sat quietly and still, but suddenly he stood, reeling in his first morning fish.
A Bluegill would make a good dish.

His dog was wagging her tail like the fish in the pail. I watched the boy
Fill that pail all day with a sporty joy.
The day was fading, at last, a day of an awesome catch. The boy gathered
His gear and pail, his dog and him walked away on the old fishing trail.
Dinner for his family was a walk away, they would feast on his catch that day.

It was a relaxing day to see how a child could patiently stay was this work or play?
Perhaps it was  both you could say. When the smile on his face lit up my day.
So I had a peaceful sight on that warm summer day and so happy that his dog and the boy
Came my way, it showed me fond memories of my long ago past. Days when I fished
For my dinner, and always was a winner. A time where my sunshine seemed to last.
