Senseless Game
At long last, it occurred to me
That I'd played a senseless game
Of thinking myself invincible
As arrogant I became.
Oh, I was worse than stupid
To think in such a way
Oblivious to the glaring fact
That I could die today.
For tomorrow isn't promised
And that did cause me fear
Which meant my lifestyle had to change
To one less cavalier.
Then adapt my way of thinking
And fully understand
That I am but a mortal man
Whose time might be at hand.
Yes, at long last, it occurred to me
That a senseless game I played
Of thinking myself invincible
In a make-believe charade.
That I'd played a senseless game
Of thinking myself invincible
As arrogant I became.
Oh, I was worse than stupid
To think in such a way
Oblivious to the glaring fact
That I could die today.
For tomorrow isn't promised
And that did cause me fear
Which meant my lifestyle had to change
To one less cavalier.
Then adapt my way of thinking
And fully understand
That I am but a mortal man
Whose time might be at hand.
Yes, at long last, it occurred to me
That a senseless game I played
Of thinking myself invincible
In a make-believe charade.
