“The City”

She felt lost
in the rush
of the big
city
everything
moving
way to fast
for an easy
going girl
wanting to
pause
as she walked
along the Blvd
to enjoy some
wild flowers
growing through
the cracks
between the
ground
and a wall,
but she kept
getting pushed
forward
down the
sidewalk
by the onslaught
of people
coming from
behind her
forcing her
to pass them
by,
she’s still not
understanding
that hurry up
look
they get
in their eyes
paying no
attention
to the world
all around them
as they briskly
went by
trampling their
beauty
right into the
cement ground
beneath them,
she didn’t
believe
in strangers
if she saw
someone
interesting
or thought
she might like
to know
she would stop
and extend
her hand
and say hi
ask them to
tell her their
story
listening intently
as they spoke
then leaving them
her smile
before falling
back in line
with the crowd
and continuing
on her way,
she loved
exploring
the city
going to places
you’d never find
on any kind
of map
and if you
asked her
where she’s been
she would say
“where the
people live”
those undiscovered
hubs of population
that the masses
just ignore
never taking
notice
of the real
life
going on beside
their well-traveled
paths
that they take
on a daily
basis
wearing the
blinders of a
medericory
style existence
only looking at
the things
their told to
see
while she can’t
help but notice
all of life’s
glaring wonders
shinning before
her,
she’ll never
quite
fit in
living in the
city
but it’s her
home now
and it’s where
she’s going to
make
all those
dreams
of hers
come true…
