The Backyard Of My Life
Black Nightingale
Baby stop crying
Your tears are tarnished
With the tombstone truth abandoned all alone
Little lost orphan with a number for her name
Bootleggers broke in and placed her in chains
They sent her to sea to sail on a slave ship
Diamond Joe was the children catcher
he kept them in cruelty locked up in cages
then he sent them to dig deep down in the mine
to hammer the rock one nail at a time
They can take her spirit
They can break her wings
Under the big yellow moon in the sky
Nothing lasts forever black nightingale fly
she could speak only when spoke to
she must do as her master says
they violated her freedom in a million different ways
she was beaten for been born
Tortured for fun
they threatened to kill her if she tried to run
denied of existence and air to breathe
she was Private property she could never leave
Black nightingale behind the veil
a survivor waiting to shine
shes seen so much suffering
for a human being so Divine
oppression of liberty like a thief in the night
without any reason other then spite
forced in to hell for committing no sin
diamond Joe smirking stinking of gin
tells her your a prisoner you belong to me
your my possession and you'll never be free
going nowhere till the day that you die
so wipe that tear away from your eye
They can take her spirit
They can break her wings
Under the big yellow moon in the sky
Nothing lasts forever black nightingale fly
