Keepers of the Prison

They hound you, the haunt you, tease you and taunt you
Cast a shadow of doubt on anything you want to do
They follow so close, always right behind you
Bring up every past deed and constantly remind you
They whip you with legalism, beat you with expectation
They wait to catch you slipping and ponce with no hesitation
They hold the keys to your dreams and dangle them before you
Build walls around so none hear you and ignore you
They shackle your ministry; try to hush your witness
They are the keepers who facilitate your prison
But as real as it may seem, and as true as it may be
Jesus paid the price to set all captives free
But just as Paul and Silas remained in their jail
The keepers of the prison can be free as well
Read in Acts 16, start at chapter 22
Put yourself in that prison; now what will you do
Paul and Silas prayed and the prisoners were listening
Deep in the darkness a ray of light was glistening
Their faith shook the earth and the prison doors gave way
The keeper of the prison didn't make the captives stay
He saw his life as over, with all his prisoners gone
With no prison to keep, how could he live on
But when Paul called out, do yourself no harm
His theology unraveled like a ball of yarn
The apostles prayed, the prisoners stayed
The prisons doors opened and all were saved
Taking into consideration everything that took place
Marvelous in the mystery of God's amazing grace
The prison wall they keep you in; if you dare to look again
You are on the outside and they are locked within
As strange as it would appear to be
God sent you to set them free
Will you stay and continue to pray
So the Lord can have His perfect way
