“Noticed”
He could feel
himself slipping
going from not
caring what
she thought
about him
to just hoping
to get noticed
by her in
some little
way,
walking on the
edge
of failure
each time he
flashes her a
smile
and she just
lowers her head
and goes past
him
forcing him to
rethink his
liberal
use of the
smile
maybe take it
down a notch
switch to a
causal nod
a much higher
response
percentage
in that move
though the
payoff
is a much
smaller return,
but right now
he just needs
to put something
in the win
column
even if she
flips him off
with some creative
accounting
he could dress
that up as a
provocative
gesture,
but sadly
even the lowly
nod
doesn’t solicit
a response
in any form
from her today
he turns and
watches her
go by
disappointed in
his recent
defeats
but unable to
let his pride
keep him from
following her
lanky stride
and uneven
motion
as she makes
her way
down the aisle,
maybe tomorrow
he’ll start off
with the casual
nod
and if he
gets
any kind of
acknowledgement
he’ll step up
his efforts
and go to
the smile
trying to find
anything
to get noticed
by her
and turn those
soft blue
eyes
his way
hoping to capture
her attention
just long enough
to get her
to think about
maybe giving
him
a chance…
