“She Listened”

He was completely
taken back
when she gave
him
her whole
attention,
he had just
got stabbed
in the back
by one of
his friendly
coworkers
another backroom
assault
on his character
a practice
that is becoming
all too common,
he felt the
need
to speak a
few words
if he could
just find someone
to listen
when he
saw her
standing there,
as he started
to tell her
about his
ongoing situation
she stopped what
she was doing
lowered her hands
and looked at
him
she didn’t speak
leaned a shoulder
against the wall
her whole body
turned off
as if to show
him
she was listening,
his mind was
racing
as he spoke
to her
trying to remember
the last time
someone listened
so intently
to what he
was trying to
say
he had forgotten
the purpose
of the conversation
the compassion
she was showing
him
in her eyes
alone
made him feel
special
like he personally
meant something
to her,
her body looked
as if it was
absorbing
the pain in
his voice
his mind
finally caught up
to his words
and it put
an end
to his rambling
sentences
none of which
really seemed
very important
anymore,
not after
she gave
herself
to him
in a way
he knows
he won’t soon
forget…
