I am writing these things to you,
So that you may never sin;
But an advocate is true,
For pardoning you within.
For the propitiation,
Of sin is Christ our Lord;
For the conciliation,
That can never be ignored.
Not just us but the whole world,
And that we have come to know;
By confessing sins are hurled,
Along with guilt that would show.
If we know His commandments,
But we know not Jesus Christ;
Christ aches from abandonment,
The world to us has enticed.
You will then be a liar,
Cannot be telling the truth;
Desires are on fire,
For acting rude and uncouth.
But whoever keeps His Word,
Truly has God and His love;
Enters the heart and is stirred,
As it flows down from above.
Whoever says they abide;
Must also walk the same way;
His Law is engraved inside,
So, heart and mind do not stray.
I write to you no new Law,
But an old one from the start;
Keep you from getting a flaw,
Remembering in your heart.
A new command that I write,
Which is true in Him and you;
For giving you the insight,
The darkness not passing through.
The darkness passes away,
And the true light is shining;
For life starting a new day,
Gloom and doom are declining.
If you say you are in the light,
But is hating your brother;
Darkness still in your sight,
With no love for another.
