All My Children  ( CATS ARE  PEOPLE TOO)

when I close my eyes
I'm connected to the tunnel of memory.

the soft honey of his neck
in the darkness at night
I breathe in his musty smell
and the back of his head butts into my chin
in mock protest
he'll put up with me
for awhile
he is the one who decides
when he's had enough
what I would give for that warm smell now
and the warmth one small body could give
was enormous
he stayed by my side when it was cold
and groomed my arms and face
then squirmed out when he'd had enough
of my singing old songs substituting his name
whispering secrets that he could be my next boyfriend
then he put his paw over B's mouth
to silence his snore
and later on join in the snoring himself...
he was only 9 pounds
but he snored like a giant.

she always found her way to my right shoulder
to make her midnight nest
pumping me with soft paws
then double pumping my chest with her head
to let me know not to move
because she was comfortable...
she was black velvet and disappeared in the dark
unless she opened her golden eyes...
and if you moved she chirped in surprise
and then jumped down to put her butt on my face
to let me know how she wanted back to her place
and to re-establish her dominance
her throne
she made you feel good to be her home
playing and running to fetch
that is why she was called Lucky
sometimes she night-chattered with me
and I would whisper back
it wasn't the words I murmured to her
but that she answered me.

he didn't have a very warm start
found him out in the yard
whiskers burnt and stomach distended
but soon enough he got his bounce back
I called him Le Pounce for his enthusiasm
and his tongue lolling attacks...
playing fetch until he was nearly worn out
but then he rebound and get his energy back
shredding toilet paper and scattering laundry
all about
he started out sleeping between my feet
yet near the end he slept tucked into my left arm
with his head under my nose
until the Lucky came then he moved onto my pillow
my head were the place he chose
then to lie every night
my ears were always warmed by his body
as I again whispered my secrets
how he could also be my boyfriend
all he had to do was let you kiss him often
then
the spell was sure to take

all of my children
they were and are
held in my heart
and living in my dreams
forever.

this is a bit of a tribute to all the cats
I've known in my recent history...and my
boyfriend has known as well...Ghuey/TLP
Tigger Le Pounce and Lucky.

I will come back and re-edit.
For those of you who are not cat people
you will probably groan...or you can use your imagination
and substitute it for a dog...or?
there is bound to be something familiar here
