the night is mostly quiet
the air moves briefly through
bare branches
pantomiming nonsense
no intelligence speaks from the
sparkling universe above
near dawn
and no answers yet
a comet blazes across
I'm struck down by it
and these silent endings
which hammer away
at my frail heart
