Special Holidays

It's appalling how some kin folks
Choose to simply stay away
And not be joined with family
On special holidays.

Because of petty differences
They refuse to lay aside
If only for a little while
And forget their hoggish pride.

But it seems their unschooled grievances
Take precedence over kin
Not thinking that those special times
May not come round again.

For none of us are promised
The gift of one more year
So why would anyone not want
The family to be near?

Again, it is appalling
When smallness paves the way
And kin folks choose to stay away
On special holidays.
