'' If They're Anything Like Us ''

The scientists relieved,
Said, it's message received,
We've made contact with an alien race,
What they've perceived,
Is what could be achieved,
When we finally meet up face to face.

Though light years ahead,
The won't want us dead,
We can learn a lot from each other,
Of facts not a shred,
We're so easily led,
It's the dangers our scientists smother.

What about disease,
Will we need to appease?
As a species they may well be worse,
Will they feel at ease?
Be easy to please,
On our existence they could be a curse.

Our history is clear,
It's ourselves we fear,
Destruction is entrenched in our genes,
Will our visitors endear,
Or make us disappear,
They could well be killing machines.

As we've evolved,
Around death we've revolved,
Humans don't know the meaning of peace.
Will our problems be solved?
Or will we be dissolved,
As our killing we just cannot cease.

So, we'd better take care,
As those out there,
Could kick up a terrible fuss,
We need to prepare,
As well as beware,
We are doomed,
